If you're like any of us, you may have come upon a piece of wood and thought: what in the world is that? Hardwood? Softwood? Dimensional lumber? Plywood? Ground-treated?

In this live, virtual seminar, we'll cover the basics of how to identify wood, what certain types of wood are good for, sanding (by hand, and machine), and common finishes (like stains, polyurethanes, and weather-proofers). In addition, we'll cover:

  • A brief history of dimensional lumber
  • Plywoods: CDX, MDF, and Chipboard -- what are they good for?
  • "Ground treated" or "pressure-treated" lumber
  • "Furniture grade" lumber
  • Heartwood vs. sapwood
  • How to spot splitting, bowing, or checking
  • Sanding efficiently: when to sand by hand, and when to consider a power tool
  • Finishing options and application
  • and plenty more!

This is a great class for beginners and those looking for a refresher. Our presentation begins promptly at 6:00, followed by Q&A.

Registration will close at 5:00pm the day before the seminar.
Cost: $15
